Tickets are £30, £27 for Surrey CF members, which includes a rather gorgeous looking 3 course meal (steak, sea bass, chocolate related goodness) and wine on arrival.

Please contact me at aswann@surrey.cfbranch.com for tickets: bring a friend, bring your family, for those who have not seen Dan’s recent “Devalued Prime Minister of a Devalued Government” speech, take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs

We will be having an action day before hand and I shall personally be buying drinks for all attendees. Better still, the action day is for a target seat (Guildford, held by the wonderful Anne Milton MP) and shall be in the AFTERNOON and with any luck in the sun! The plan will be to meet at around 2pm for a few hours of leafleting to build up an appetite before dinner.

As always call me (07824817733) or email for details and tickets. It will be a wonderful day/evening.

Alexandra x

p.s. If I ever finally finish the 16,000 words I have due in over the next 3 weeks and pass my exams, the blog is coming back in full force and I cannot wait.

On the 22nd January at 7.30pm is the official launch of Runnymede & Spelthorne Conservative Future, a relatively new and fantastically run branch situated in Surrey.

A message from RSCF….

“RSCF would like to invite you to this free event, where complementary refreshments will be served.
We are delighted to confirm that the guest speaker will be Brian Binley MP.

Brian is a dynamic Conservative MP serving Northampton South. He is the chairman of BCC Marketing Services, the co-founder of Beechwood House Publishing and a Royal Society for the Arts fellow. He believes fervently in freeing our nation from the shackles of bureaucracy.

RSCF serves the two constituencies of Runnymede & Weybridge and Spelthorne. We are a branch of Conservative Future, which is the largest political organisation for young people in the UK. Our purpose is to encourage Conservative Party values and assist in elections. We have a vibrant social aspect and we participate in lectures, debates and many other activities.”

Hope to see you there…

(As left on TB www.torybear.com)

STOP ATTACKING THE BEAR!

I think this has gone just a little bit too far.

Abusive comments left under “anonymous”, no doubt by friends of those involved, are as childish and ridiculous as the claims you are making against TB.

Whilst the broadcasting of these conversations perhaps wasn’t the wisest move it does not in any way deserve the bloody awful comments some of you seem intent on sending this way.

For a start, as Adele has said, the campaigning in the North has gone ahead as planned. There is no great collapse because Richard Lowe was caught out doing something when he should have known better.
Furthermore, yes many people go to bad taste parties but at the same time they are not in positions of responsibility representing the party - a party that has spent the last few years trying to build up its image and doesn’t need bringing down by utter stupidity as it prepares to take over government.
The “joke” in itself was sick and wrong but the other massive error here was not having the common sense to leave it off the internet.

Matt Lewis is a lovely person and I really do feel awful for him as this has not only seen him removed from the party but it will probably damage his future career prospects. Memories fade but the internet remains. However, he should have known better and only has himself to blame. Not TB.

Finally, this has not painted the Conservatives in a bad light. It was not a CF event and swift action was taken in expelling all involved. Perhaps it could even be said that this bloody awful incident has shown the willingness of the party to take decisive action against something it considers unacceptable.

So please, stop attacking TB. If it were a Labour candidate or activist you would all be as sanctimonious. Just imagine if it was a Lib Dem!?!

Whilst he may have brought it to light he was not the one dressing up, he was not the one making sick jokes and he certainly was not the one laughing about it on a facebook profile. His “sanctimonious” attitude is exactly what was required in the circumstance. What the hell would you all have said if he made light of it and the story read “Tory boy and subsequent Tory blogs make sick joke…” etc etc.

Don’t shoot the messenger. Shoot the utter stupidity of those involved.
Better still, let’s put all this to rest and learn from it.

You’d think that after certain events in Nottingham, a certain other CF member supposedly being in trouble over similar jokes in the past on intouch and various other things CF WOULD BLOODY LEARN!!!

Not only is it completely awful, distasteful and generally exceptionally low but it’s just down right stupid to allow these things, if they must (which they shouldn’t) happen come to light on facebook.
Is it just my University that spends hours emailing us to keep in mind that future employers etc may look at our facebook profiles?

So, Matt Lewis, the leader of the anti-reform protest has made The Sun, The Indy, The Guardian, The Mail…. to name but a few. And the weekend papers.

Described as a “leading Tory activist” by the guardian, Matt Lewis has been kicked out the party.

No word from Matt so far. It seems he’s deleted his facebook profile. Funny that.

That was an error wasn’t it?

I’m all for a bit of love at Christmas and there’s a lot to be said for looking after your activists but Jesus I have received more Christmas cards from the Conservative party than anyone else!!!

Admittedly, few of my friends/people my age bother with real-life-non-email-non-text-in-the-flesh Christmas cards but 3 cards is a tad excessive perhaps??
The one from the Camerons is a lovely family shot complete with “real” signatures, then one from Ms Spellman with a lovely picture drawn by a WHF kiddie then finally one from the Tory convention. It was a large one.

Whilst I appreciate it and feel exceptionally valued by my party right now I can’t help but wonder that perhaps with a possible February election party funds could be slightly better spent? I wouldn’t be too offended if I just received one saying “Happy Christmas, love Dave, Caz and the gang”.

Just a thought.

On another note I’m off to the Caribbean tomorrow on a very early flight and due to the 2 week average lifespan of my blackberry before it is lost I shall be uncontactable aside phone and most definitely not blogging!!! Shame, considering I’ve finally got back into it!

Back on the 2nd for what looks to be a spectacular night/weekend in London and shall probably see everyone for a bit of Russian loving on the 7th with YBF!

Have a fantastic Christmas x

I’m no economist and I know there’s the theory that if consumption is raised then AD will go up and we will start growing again etc etc…. but I can’t help but think this recession, credit crunch, whatever it is you want to call it really just symbolizes everything I despise about modern British culture, a British culture Brown has done little to save and made far too many excuses for.

My theory is simple - if you cannot afford something, do not buy it. (I’m talking all about personal debt etc here, not mortagages or businesses because those are clearly different issues and business is bloody important). The whole idea of buying “on credit” terrifies me; it is far too easy to get a credit card and spend on it with very little if any proof you will ever pay for the endless shiny goods you are handed on a plate of irresponsibility and greed.
Why is this allowed to happen? Surely consumption is a good thing but when it allows the (excuse me) often lower classes to slip further into a spiral of debt and destruction, the values of which are passed on to their children, shouldn’t we nip it in the bud?

I was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and heard something along the lines of in the future people are going to face increases on their repayments . Standard. BUT, there was a clause.
This wouldn’t apply to those who had missed their last 2 payments.

Surely this is somewhat backwards, encouraging people to miss repayments and in doing so allow their debt to remain unpaid and stagnating so they could get away with paying less in the short term?
Am i utterly mistaken and blinded by my middle class ignorance?
Should all people have the opportunity to have the luxury goods they want, regardless of their means?

I say no. Sorry to the PC guardian readers etc etc but if student life has taught me one thing it is to live within your means whatever those are and not use money that isn’t yours. One day (if Labour doesn’t absolve your credit card bills with the stolen money of the successful) you will have to pay it back.

Another Labour scheme that encourages sloth and irresponsibility and punishes success (or in this case meeting requirements). The way this country works disgusts me to the same levels as progressive taxation.

I won’t even start on the prospect of 45% tax. Jesus.
